FAQ's
Môr a Sawna is a wood-fired mobile sauna permanently situated at Jackson's Bay in Barry, South Wales. Rooted in wellness and mental health, our sauna offers a restorative space where heat, nature, and intentional ritual come together. Overlooking the curve of the beach, you're invited to move between sea and sauna, warmth and wildness, stillness and renewal.
Inside, the soft glow of the fire, the scent of wood, and the glass-dome view create a tranquil retreat where your body can unwind and your mind can settle. Sauna bathing here is more than heat — it's a guided ritual of release, grounding, and reconnection, led by Kathryn, your Sauna Master.
Sessions and rituals are led by Kathryn, a Sauna Master and therapeutic practitioner. Her background includes: Holistic Therapist since 2004, Certified Trauma and Mental Health Practitioner (Level 5), Mindset Coach, NLP Coach & Practitioner, Time Line Therapy Practitioner, Hypnosis Practitioner, Registered Sandstory Therapist, Reiki Master, Mizan Therapy Practitioner, and trained in a range of therapeutic and creative techniques.
• Breathwork to settle the nervous system
• Aromatherapy infusions (löyly) — essential oils used within the sauna, never on the stones
• Cold-water immersion guidance — safe transitions between sea/cold shower and sauna
• Mindful moments of silence to reset and reconnect
• Seasonal or intention-based rituals — new moon, full moon, sunrise, or grounding practices
Yes. We host wellness events, sound & sauna sessions, silent disco saunas, and bespoke corporate wellness days for teams, groups, and organisations. Sessions can include guided sauna rituals, breathwork, cold-water immersion, aromatherapy, and time for reflection. We also collaborate with external instructors for yoga, qi-gong, fitness and other restorative practices on the beach.
• Boosts immunity— heat exposure prompts the body to produce white blood cells more rapidly, helping fight illness and ease sinus congestion.
• Eases muscle and joint pain— heat dilates blood vessels, increases circulation and relaxes stiff muscles and inflamed joints.
• Improves sleep quality— 15–20 minutes in a sauna can shift the nervous system into rest-and-digest mode, supporting deeper sleep.
• Detoxification— sweating helps flush toxins and heavy metals (lead, zinc, copper, nickel, mercury), supports the lymphatic system and can speed up metabolism.
Cold-water swimming complements the sauna beautifully. It boosts immunity (white blood cell response to changing conditions), triggers a natural endorphin high, burns extra calories as the body works to stay warm, and reduces stress through its effect on the vagus nerve.

Yes — you can book up to 7 communal sessions back to back. If you do, we strongly recommend plenty of water and breaks from the heat between sessions.
Swimwear, plenty of drinking water, 2 towels (one for sitting on in the sauna and one for drying off), warm clothing to change into after, and appropriate beach footwear. Please remove any metal jewellery — it can get very hot and can burn. We'd advise leaving valuables at home.
For communal sessions, swimwear is compulsory. For private/exclusive bookings it's down to you and your group. We recommend a bathing suit — for your experience and for everyone you may share the sauna with — but you should be as comfortable as possible. If you'd prefer to wear a t-shirt, wrap, or robe, that's fine too.
No. We recommend 2–15 minutes inside at a time. Everyone has a different tolerance — listen to your body and step out to cool off whenever you need to. We have the options of a cold plunge pool, cold showers, or the sea for cooling down, creating the ideal contrast therapy experience.
Please arrive 5 minutes early for a brief orientation so we can get you started smoothly. We recommend arriving with swimwear already on under your clothes — this saves time at the changing shed.
